What is fake news?
Fake news is false or misleading information presented as fact with the aim of damaging the reputation of a person or business or making money through ad revenue. It is not limited to one political party. It is not news you disagree with.
Understanding Bias
There are many forms of bias that play a role in how we search for, consume, understand, and remember information.
-Media Bias is the bias of the journalist and/or the news producers that affects how the information is reported. Some sources are more conservative or liberal, skewing how they present their stories. Try to choose sources that are consistently neutral in their reporting. -Explicit Biases are prejudices toward certain groups that we are aware of. Overt racism is an example of explicit bias.
-Implicit Bias is prejudice toward certain groups that we are unaware or unconscious of, but that influence our behavior.
-Confirmation Bias- is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor and recall information that confirms or supports our already existing beliefs or values.
This is why it is important that we are getting information from multiple sources.
