Mission: Mars!
Mars Basics: Finding out what we know and what we want to know about Mars!
Children compared how Mars and Martians are depicted in books to what we actually know.
Children then created Zines to share what they know about Mars with others.
Children built telescopes to participate in International Observe the Moon Night on October 8.
Zines on display!
We studied the history of Mars exploration and how Mars was depicted in science fiction throughout the years.
Ideas about Mars changed as technology changed.
Getting better views of Mars with new technologies.
Children practiced observing new planets with advancing technology.
Children reported their findings.
We discussed the search for life on the Red Planet.
We practiced defining life and observing it.
We also discussed protecting life. Children made aliens with UV beads that change color in the sun.
Children then had to create a way to protect their alien from UV rays.
In the last installment, we discussed Mars engineering.
Our guests, the Women Engineers are Pioneers Club (WEP) at Alfred State College, helped students design rovers.
Rover test 1
For this challenge, rovers must be wind powered, move 24 inches and carry the weight of three legos.
